Security Studies

Definition

A people-centred framework that treats individuals' freedom from fear, freedom from want and ability to live with dignity as central security concerns, complementing state-centred approaches.

Theoretical Context

UNDP's 1994 Human Development Report distinguished seven dimensions: economic, food, health, environmental, personal, community and political security. Their interactions highlight vulnerability, prevention and development rather than solely military threats.
